Geo-Enquiry: How global is ADA's car park?
One step ahead: Watch this to be 'in the know' for our next geo-enquiry. Write down 'Who' they are and their country of origin
Homework 1: Geogmeister challenge: Watch this and make an A-Z list of car manufacturers. PS - knowing what the 'badge' is like will be especially helpful next lesson!
Geo-enquiry: How global is ADA's car park?
You might be thinking 'not very' it is located in Telford and is therefore local but you need to think outside of the box for this one!!!
The cars are made in different countries for companies of different nationalities. For example BMW is a German company, but most of its cars are made in other countries.
Geo-Enquiry
Predictions
Before we carry out geo-enquiry it is useful to set up some predictions about what you think you might find out. For example we might predict that
a) there will be more Ford cars on the car park as there is a dealership within 7 miles of the Academy
b) cars of a certain colour might park close to one another
c) the bigger car park spaces might contain more modern/new cars as there owners might not want them to get damaged
d) most cars on the car park will be 5 door models as often teachers have families and plus they need more space to take the books/teaching resources home

Data collection
no sampling technique or fair test to worry about - we will survey the whole car park, but we do need to stay safe. What might you suggest to achieve this?
Data presentation
colour coding of the map to show age of vehicle, 3 or 5 door or colour (depending upon your group role)
bar chart or pie chart of one set of data
Europe or World map - choropleth shaded to show how many vehicles from each country
Data analysis
most/least popular:
colours? model? age of car? nationality of car?
Conclusion?
how global is the car park? totally global? more European than global? more British than global?
how might the results be different if this car park had been located in India? Germany?
Evaluation
What might you do differently next time?
What if you were to survey the car park at different times of the day? year?

Homework 2: Finish the choropleth map and the graph showing the number of cars from each country. Remember to apply 'All Four Top Drawer' to both. If you can't remember what this is, use your exercise book or look in Section 3 (graphs) and Section 4 (maps) in the 'skills' section on this website.
Homework 3: Finish your write up, using your maps and graphs to help you. The document below will help you to work your way up through the levels to achieve a quality level.
